We work to develop innovative information tools that support national and international efforts to tackle global problems. The first tangible result of our efforts is ResolutionFinder.org. Right now we are working on additional tools and concept that contribute to a better-informed, more aware, and better-connected World Society.

ResolutionFinder.org

ResolutionFinder.org is a database-in-progress for UN agreements which aims at facilitating the access to these documents in a manner which has not been done before. ResolutionFinder.org does not only compile documents, but it also classifies them according to several criteria, including their legal status with regard to implementation. In addition, ResolutionFinder.org also allows you to search for individual clauses and classifies their content as well, according to the type of information they include and the entities they address.

With ResolutionFinder.org, anyone working with UN agreements can perform simple searches with one or several keywords – or “tags” as we call them – and instantly see all clauses from UN documents which are related to these tags. This guarantees that no important information will be missed, especially in the cases where there is only one relevant clause for a certain topic of interest in a rather lengthy and complex document.

So far, ResolutionFinder.org is up and running in beta version and provides content in four thematic areas – Clean Drinking Water, Malaria, Women and Education, and Small Arms and Light Weapons. The purpose of the beta is to identify the preferences of the users and tailor the model to their needs before moving forward to extend the database. Right now, we are gathering and analyzing feedback and our IT people are improving the search constantly. On top of that, the database will encompass two new thematic areas by the end of the year – Nuclear Proliferation and Desertification and Drought – two of the “hot topics” not only on the UN Agenda, but in politics all over the world.

Jungle Drum is cooperating with the International Relations and Security Network (ISN) of ETH Zurich to gradually enhance the contents of ResolutionFinder.org.

International Days Tools

We have just recently started a little project that is focused on those days that were declared International Days by the United Nations, such as "International Women’s Day". The UN has declared several International Days to raise awareness of global challenges as well as global efforts to fight these challenges. We want to help spread the word on these days by providing information on the respective issues, links to UN entities and other organizations that work in the respective thematic fields, and other helpful resources. In addition, we are featuring thematic 'outfits' of our own website in accordance with International Days. Right now we are featuring a small website widget here on the website and publish updates on the individual International Days on Facebook and Twitter that will let you be informed about these days. Up next, we are working to provide short, useful compilations of interesting facts and related links to further information. Stay tuned on our progress on twitter and Facebook.

CliMap Project

Starting in January 2011, Jungle Drum and the United Nations Association of Germany will develop an online tool which utilizes the power of Web 2.0 visualisation methods to present information on Climate Change in comprehensive, visually attractive and tangible ways. We envision CliMap as an engaging and at the same time practical and effective online solution to help web users access information and news about the global efforts to fight Climate Change, more easily and quickly. The CliMap project is supported by the EU's European Voluntary Service.

Why jungle drum?

Some might first think of a song when hearing the term jungle drum. For us, jungle drum means to reach a vast audience of people effectively by simple means of communication. We want to provide such simple yet effective tools to make the world better-informed and better-connected.
